Book Blast
Event Date: Saturday, July 11, 2009
Hours: 10:00am to 1:00pm; free admission 10:00 to noon
Families are invited to celebrate summer reading at a festival centered around books and literacy sponsored by the Kern Reading Association. Students presenting completed reading logs at the gate can get their whole family to the museum for a variety of summer activities. Book Blast featured costumed readers and characters, arts and crafts and plenty of fun. For each story heard, children earn tickets that are good for great prize drawings. Come as your favorite book character and get an extra chance for a prize! Some refreshments available at no charge; others available for a minimal fee.
28 Years at the Kern County Museum!

Please join us for an evening honoring Carola Rupert Enriquez. Carola is retiring after 28 years of dedicated service as the director of the Kern County Museum. Join us for hors d'oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages, and a no-host bar as we celebrate Carola's many accomplishments and contributions to the museum. The price is $25.00 per person. This is the first annual show and shine for vintage motorcycles, scooters, and bicycles at the museum hosted by Cen-Cal Speed Shop. Participants can compete for awards and have fun with themed activities for kids and a raffle. There will be vendors and dealers with food, t-sthirts and pins, and vintage cycle goods. Regular admission rates apply; Museum members admitted free. Vehicle entry is $20.00 and includes two adult admissions. Experience over 100 different brews from an estimated 60 breweries from across the United States and Canada and over 50 wines from at least 20 Central Coast wineries. You will experience four stages of live entertainment with several of Bakersfield's hottest bands. As always, unlimited food samples will be provided from 30 of Bakersfield's most popular restaurants. Admission includes your choice of 15 beer or wine samples from your favorite pourers. Proceeds from this fundraising event go to benefit Childrens' Advocate Resource Endowment (CARE). Tickets are $55.00 each. Two hundred vendors will unpack their wares throughout the Museum's 16 acres for the Olde Time Peddler's Faire and Harvest Festival put on by Ace Antiques. For the 26th year, dozens of local businesses and organizations will sponsor trick-or-treat on the grounds of the museum as a fundraiser for the Kern County Museum Foundation. The museum's Main Gallery will be filled with trees and wreaths around the theme of everyone's favorite things. Expect the unexpected in sports, hobbies, and collectibles! The wreaths will be auctioned off at 7:00pm and the annual Lighting of the Clock Tower will be at 7:30pm. Beverages and delicious hors d'oeuvres will compliment the festive evening. Holiday Lamp Light Tours

Start the holiday season off with an event with an event evoking holiday celebrations of the past. Festive decorations, including over 100 old-fashioned lanterns on the museum grounds, set the mood for this unique celebration of the holiday season. Old West encampments and beautifully dressed costumed interpreters set the backdrop for a holiday experience you won't forget. Strolling minstrels, carolers, bell choirs and much more make this an event not to be missed. Admission is $12.00 for adults, $7.00 for children; members price is $6.00 for adults and $5.00 for children. Advance sale tickets are available and group rates for 20 or more can also be arranged in advance. Refreshments and carriage rides are an additional fee.
