Become a part of the Kern County Museum by becoming a member. Free daily admission to the thousands of historical and cultural artifacts displayed in more than 56 historic buildings on 16 beautifully landscaped acres will be yours! In addition, members receive notification of special events, and some of these events are offered at a substantial discount. You can explore such treasures as the 1882 Norris School, 1899 Woody General Store, 1868 Barnes Log Cabin as well as Native American, mining, agriculture, Bakersfield Sound and railroad exhibits as often as you like. Your membership includes changing exhibits, many unique special events and the Lori Brock Children's Discovery Center. Also included is the award winning Black Gold: The Oil Experience, an interactive treat which opened in 2002.
Friends of the Kern County Museum are entitled to the benefits listed in the Kern County Museum Membership Form (pdf). In addition, Friends of the Kern County Museum support the basic operations of the museum. From exciting educational programs, to special exhibits, to the appropriate care for hundreds of thousands of artifacts, preserved for the enjoyment of by future generations, your support of the museum through Friends of the Museum is truly appreciated.
Rentals
The museum's park-like setting can serve as a backdrop to your own event and only Friends of the Kern County Museum have this privilege. Picture your own wedding, anniversary, cocktail party, club luncheon, or other special occasion in our unique setting. Spaces for team building exercises, lectures, and workshops are also available to business members. From the Standard School Meeting Hall to the Historic Fellows Hotel or Main Museum to the Bandstand Green or St. John's Chapel, we have unique venues for a wide variety of purposes. Select Rental Information in our menu for more information about available spaces. Children's Birthday Parties at Lori Brock Children's Discovery Center are also discounted for members.
Other Opportunities
The museum's quarterly newsletter, The Courier, and direct member mailings will keep you informed of what's new at the Kern County Museum all year.
The museum is also in need of volunteers in numerous interesting positions, including helping with special events and giving school tours. For more information on the volunteer program, just check the box on your membership form.
