Mojave, California

Located about 50 miles east of Bakersfield in the Mojave Desert, Mojave was founded in 1876 as a construction camp for the Southern Pacific Railroad. From 1884 to 1889, it was the rail terminus for the famous 20-mule-team borax freight wagons. In the early 1900s, it served as the headquarters for the building the Los Angeles Aqueduct.
