East Bakersfield, California

In 1874, the Southern Pacific Railroad laid out a town that they called Sumner about 3 miles east of Bakersfield. In 1893 the town was incorporated as Kern and shortly thereafter was called Kern City. In 1909, the town incorporated with Bakersfield and became known as East Bakersfield.
