Johannesburg, California

Johannesburg is located in eastern Kern County on U.S. Highway 95 about 3 miles northeast of Randsburg. It was established in the 1890s when the nearby Rand Mining District became active with the establishment of the famous Yellow Aster Gold Mine in 1894. From 1897 to 1933, Johannesburg was the terminus of the Randsburg Railroad.
