One Room School

  • Grades 2 to 5 - 1 Hour - $5.00 per child

The One Room School program offers docent led tours of the historic Norris School. It provides an opportunity for your students to learn about the lessons, customs and manners of the 1880s. If the weather is nice, they may get to play "Steal the Handkerchief" or another game popular long ago.

You Be The Teacher!

Teach your class in the historic Norris School!

  • 3 Hours - $7.00 per child
  • Fridays (September - February) 9:00 a.m.

Our teacher's guide will help you step back in time to the 1880s and teach your own class in this 2-3 hour program. Your class will be the only class in Norris school that day, so you'll have time to truly give your students a One Room School experience. Wear your own costume or check a skirt out from the museum (a long-sleeved, white blouse and dark shoes will complete your costume). To schedule a pre-tour visit to the Norris school, please phone the Museum Education Department at 661-852-5050.

Village Tours (Self-Guided)

  • Monday through Friday

A do it yourself adventure or let our Docent lead you! These tours offer the most flexibility of all of our school tours. A scavenger hunt, which greatly enhances the tour, is available once you book your tour. Choose from:

  • Working in Kern County (Grades 1 - 2)
  • Community in Kern County (Grades 3 - 4)
  • Lifestyles in Kern County (Grades 5 - 6).
