Fuzzy Owen

fuzzyOwen1: Fuzzy Owen was born in Conway, Arkansas in April 1929. He came west to Bakersfield in 1949. He picked cotton during the day and played at the Blackboard Café several times a week with his cousin Lewis Talley and piano player George French. In the mid-1950s, he hooked up with Talley to form a number of companies including Tally Records, Lu-Tal Studios, and Owen Publishing. Owen met a young Merle Haggard in 1961 and in 1962 Owen convinced Haggard to sign with Tally Records. Haggard recorded two songs on Tally Records under the direction of Owen– Skid Row written by Haggard and Singing My Heart Out written by Owen.
