Charles Albany

sonsofthesanJoaquin: Charles Edward Albany was born in Glasgow, Kentucky on May 12, 1917. He came to Kern County with his family in 1921, but returned to Kentucky a year later. In 1936 he played on WSM, the Grand Ole Opry radio station, as a member of The Kentuckians. Charles Albany returned to Kern County in 1937. Charles entered the United States Army in 1941. While in the Army he entertained on many USO stages, both in the U. S. and Europe, appearing with many top name stars of the time. In 1951 Charles Albany returned to Kern County, California. He played at many local venues including the Minter Field Barn Dances, the Alta Sierra Resort, The Cellar in Delano, the Mr. & Mrs. Club in Wasco, The Gypsy Tea Gardens and The Chicken Coup. Albany was the singer and guitar player for the Sons of the San Joaquin. charlesalbanyPedstrum: In the 1970s Lewis Tally recorded the song “Father” written by Albany. Charles Albany died on October 25, 1993 in Kern County, California.

In 1971 Charles Albany invented a foot operated instrument called the Pedstrum.
