Ebb Pilling

ebbpilling3: Cousin Ebb Pilling arrived in Bakersfield in 1938 from Oklahoma. He started playing music in Bakersfield with Tommy Hays and the Western Swingsters at the Beardsley Ballroom. Pilling performed as a banjo-playing comedian in movie theaters around Bakersfield in 1948. He leased the Rainbow Gardens and moved to the Delano Barn Dance offering live music in the late 1940s. He operated the Pumpkin Center Barn Dance, performing with his band the Ozark Squirrel Shooters, from 1949 – 1964. He worked as a disc jockey at local radio station KBIS and KPMC during the same time period. Cousin Ebb wore this costume when he performed.
