Kern County Museum Photography Use Policy
Still photographers wishing to take photographs at the Kern County Museum for any commercial purpose, as defined by Kern County Commercial Use Policies, must submit a complete License Agreement.The License Agreement and scheduling of the session must be completed at least five working days in advance.
For any published photograph, the photographer/publisher shall give the Kern County Museum full recognition as the source of the photograph. Also, the photographer/publisher shall furnish the Museum with one copy, without charge, of the publication in which the photograph appears.
Prior to the start of a photo shoot, the photographer is required to provide the museum with a list of scenes to be photographed. The list shall include a description of any models and/or props used in each scene. The Museum reserves the right to disallow any activity which disturbs or endangers the public peace or health, outrages public decency, violates state law or local law or ordinance, or has the potential to harm museum collections or property.
The one half-day production fee for still photography is:
1 to 5 scenes $100.00
6 to 10 scenes $200.00
11 or more scenes $300.00
Still photography projects cannot exceed 3 consecutive days unless the shoot can be arranged so as not to impact day to day museum operations. Photographs taken outside the normal business hours of 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday require an additional fee of $25.00 per hour. Photographs that need to be taken inside the buildings, or which alter existing exteriors, require that a staff member accompany the photographer. The photographer shall be charged an additional $50.00 per hour for appropriate staff assistance. Fee waivers may be granted, at the discretion of the Museum Director, only for purposes which have publicity of the Kern County Museum as their main goal.
Liability Insurance is required in the amount of $1,000,000 for photography use on museum grounds. If the photographer is not able to provide liability insurance, it can be purchased through the Kern County Museum.
